The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) established statutory committees to improve the organization's effectiveness.
According to Articles 30 and 31 of the GJA 2004 Constitution, they are the Membership Vetting Committee (MVC), Professional Development Committee (PDC), Social Affairs Committee (SAC), International Relations Committee (IRC), and Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee (FRMC).
The Ethics and Disciplinary Council (EDC), which is outlined in Article 42 of the association's constitution, was also established.
In accordance with Article 30(a)(vi) of the constitution, a project management committee (PMC) and a social media visibility committee (SMVC) were also established.
Rationale
When speaking to members of the different committees in Accra yesterday, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said their establishment was fulfilling a legal need and an essential step in the association's repositioning for improved results.
"We want people to think of us as the organisation that represents all media professionals and is in charge of fostering the highest levels of professionalism.
"As the nation tries to restore its economy and prepare for the 2024 general election, we are not blind to the media's significance.
In these and other initiatives, media professionals would play crucial roles, he added.
Efforts
Mr. Dwumfour further pleaded with the committee members to give their all even though there was no pay for their labour.
George Sarpong, the NMC's executive secretary, said the organisation supports the organisation in its efforts to defend its ideals.
