Roberto De Zerbi believes Lewis Dunk's selection for the national team is on par with Brighton winning the Europa League, and he wants to help goalkeeper Jason Steele receive recognition for England.
Seagulls captain Dunk, who has been absent from international competition since making his debut in November 2018, has been added to Gareth Southgate's team for the Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia.
A prize has been given to the 31-year-old for his crucial contribution to Albion's sixth-place Premier League finish.
After replacing Robert Sanchez as the starting goalkeeper in early March, former Middlesbrough, Blackburn, and Sunderland keeper Steele has also played a significant role in a fantastic season at the Amex Stadium.
The 32-year-old is capable of joining Dunk in the national team setup and competing against players like Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope, and Sam Johnstone, according to Brighton head coach De Zerbi.
The Italian remarked of Dunk's call-up, "It's excellent news.
"I think it's possibly equally significant news as the Europa League because it's a proud (moment) to assist one of our players in achieving such a significant, famous goal.
"We must be pleased with one player, not just the coaches but the players as well.
"We will work in the upcoming season to assist Jason Steele in achieving the same goal as Lewis Dunk because he has the capacity to do it.
"In my opinion, Jason Steele is a top keeper," the speaker said. Finding another keeper of this caliber is challenging.
"I study football 24 hours a day, but another keeper with this caliber is very difficult to find," the player said.
Prior to last season, Steele had never played in the premier league. He was a former England Under-21 international and represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics.
Due to his ability to play out from the back, he was chosen over Sanchez for the preceding three months, recording six clean sheets and one assist.
