While Everton manager Sean Dyche will let his team briefly bask in their escape from the bottom division, he has already made it clear that the club has to undergo significant reform.

The Toffees defeated Bournemouth 1-0 in the 57th minute thanks to a thunderous shot from Abdoulaye Doucoure, ensuring their survival and extending their run of 70 consecutive seasons in the top division.

At the final whistle, there was a pitch invasion for the second straight year, though fewer people than in the year prior when safety was assured with one game remaining.

The club had the impression that they did not want to appear to be celebrating success while avoiding failure, and Dyche was likely the source of that impression.

The former Burnley manager, who only assumed over in late January, added, "It's a terrible day for everyone involved, and there is no joy in it for me other than getting the job done."

"I came here to change an attitude, and I believe that has started to happen. There is more still to do.

'We shouldn't be here,' I told the guys. Enjoy it today; you deserve it, but ultimately, something needs to change.

It is not like that, therefore there is no use in sitting back and bragging about how terrific we are.

"Securing it was a big step, but there is a lot to change here and a lot of work to be done."

After preventing what would have been the club's third relegation in its 145-year history, Dyche was in a stronger position to talk.

That allowed him the courage to speak frankly in his post-game press conference, something he had previously refrained from doing out of concern that it would fuel more unrest and distract from the task at hand.

"Don't think that I thought this was going to be a simple fix because it's not at all,"
