St John Bosco's College of education in the Kassena
Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region on Friday,
February 24, 2023, held its 17th matriculation ceremony to officially usher in fresh men and women into the premier teacher education institution in the region.
The College admitted 302 students made up of 157 women
representing 52% and 145 males, representing 48%. This
represents a significant improvement in the number of
females admitted to pursue various programmes of study in
the college.
In 2022, the College had just 37% women and 63% of men. In
2020, the percentages were 35% women and 65% of men. This
year's admission, therefore, goes beyond the College's target
of 50% males and 50% females.
For the academic year in question, St. John Bosco's College
which is capable of admitting nearly 600 students had to settle
for 302 out of 3,239 first-choice applications received.
This, therefore, means that for every student that gained
admission this year, nearly ten (10) qualified students were rejected.
In his address at the ceremony, the Principal of the College,
Prof. Joseph Amikuzuno said this year's admission is barely
50% of the over 500 students admitted last year.
“This year, we have on the roll only 302 students. This is
barely a little over 50% of the 522 students we enrolled last
year. We took 302 out of 3239 first-choice applicants alone.
Therefore, for every student accepted into the College this
year, 10 students were rejected. we did our best,” the worried
Principal stressed.
He further admonished the fresh men and women to
endeavour to be disciplined throughout their stay in the
school.
“I ask for your cooperation for us to live, learn, dream, and
grow together in knowledge, experience, and wisdom. Let us
endeavour to be disciplined in every dimension”he added.
This institution is a Catholic entity and therefore discipline is
absolutely necessary for living and studying here,” Prof.
