During his second stint as Tottenham's interim manager, Ryan Mason praised the "great job" he and his coaching staff have done.
Tottenham ended their Premier League campaign with a decisive 4-1 victory at Leeds, who were relegated, however they were unable to secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2008-09.
Mason stated: "I would want and expect that everyone inside of our training site understands who I am, who my squad is, and what we stand for when I leave on my summer holidays. It is hoped and anticipated that you and everyone else will also notice that. I'm confident in the work we've done. I genuinely do.
With six games left, the former Spurs player, 31, took over for Christian Stellini, who had served as interim manager since Jose Mourinho's dismissal in 2021.
Tottenham fired Antonio Conte towards the end of March, and although though they were fourth in the standings at the time, they had already lost all of their cup games, and their weary supporters had become weary of the way their team was performing.
Mason added, "The circumstances were very difficult," and he recommended the team to pick their next managerial hire carefully.
"I believe it would have been difficult for anyone in the world to play six games after what had transpired and the predicament we were in.
Additionally, being on an interim basis makes it more difficult because there is ambiguity. But we stayed true to our principles, I think we made a slight adjustment in a short period of time, and the players responded by giving everything they had, and ultimately that's all I can ask.
Mason has urged the team to regain their identity over his six games in charge and believes it is the most important component as they move forward with their hunt for a new manager.
"Having an identity, being aware of who you are and what you want to be, and sticking with that is the most important thing for any club in world football,"
