On a two-year contract, Mauricio Pochettino has been named Chelsea's manager.

Frank Lampard, the temporary manager who presided over his final game in charge against Newcastle on Sunday, will be replaced by the former Tottenham coach, who has been out of work since leaving Paris St. Germain last year.

It concludes an almost two-month search for Graham Potter's long-term replacement after he was fired on April 2.

According to the PA news agency, Pochettino was the club's first choice from the beginning of the search, which was coordinated by co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

Although the club had negotiations with former Spain coach Luis Enrique, former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, and other candidates, he was the only one with whom they had real discussions.

In order to rebuild the team following their worst season in 30 years, the new manager, whose contract includes an option for a third season, will collaborate closely with Winstanley and Stewart.Pochettino will lead the Chelsea team for the first time during preseason before Premier League play resumes in the 2023–24 season.

The Blues are traveling to the US to take on both German opposition and a number of Premier League rivals.

Before playing Brighton, Newcastle, and Fulham, they face National League champions Wrexham in Chapel Hill. Borussia Dortmund, the Bundesliga's runner-up, will be their opponent in their last match in Chicago.

Under interim manager Frank Lampard, the Blues struggled to a win in a season of record lows under new ownership. However, Pochettino's hiring instills new hope in a team that has failed on every level over the past 12 months.

The Argentine has a large squad at Stamford Bridge that needs to be reduced, and attention is now on the day when he will take over as manager of his new team for the first time.

Because Chelsea placed 12th in the Premier League, Stamford Bridge won't host any European matches in 2023–24. Instead, Pochettino will focus on domestic tournaments in an effort to win trophies during his first season with the club.

Manchester City is the Premier League club to beat; after defeating Arsenal, they ended 45 points ahead of Chelsea.
