Cristiano Ronaldo has offered himself to one of former club Real Madrid's bitter rivals and has told current employers Al-Nassr that he wishes to leave according to El Nacional.Late last month, the same Catalan newspaper was the first outlet to report how the Portuguese legend is unhappy at the Saudi giants who he joined in January after his Manchester United contract was rescinded by mutual agreement. Last week, Mundo Deportivo also reported that he " cannot take it anymore" in the Middle East.
Despite being paid € 200 million ($214. 4 million) a year according to The Guardian, which has helped him top Forbes' list of the World's Highest-Paid Athletes in 2023, Ronaldo is having problems adapting to the local culture and has told Al-Nassr's owner Mohammed Bin Salman of his hopes for a swift exit.
Amid Al-Nassr being set to finish runners-up in the Saudi Pro League, leaving Ronaldo trophyless for a second consecutive term, El Nacional reports that the 38- year- old wants to " return to a demanding and competitive league in which he can show that he is still physically prepared to play in the elite" with La Liga his priority
After originally reporting that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had opened the door to a behind-the-scenes role at the Bernabeu, El Nacional now further adds that Ronaldo has " tried his luck" contacting the Spanish capital's other big team in Atletico Madrid.
Ronaldo allegedly did this last summer, only to be met with protests from Atleti fans who essentially blocked a potential move. They could not bear the thought of a Real Madrid legend, who played a key part in inflicting two painful Champions League defeats on their team in 2014 and 2016, wearing their colors.
Yet as the Rojiblancos are short of top strikers because of Matheus Cunha having departed to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and both Memphis Depay and Alvaro Mataro failing to impress as of late, the head coach at the Metropolitano - Diego Simeone - considers Ronaldo a " great reinforcement".
If he manages to again get out of his contract at Al-Nassr, Ronaldo would come free of charge to any potential suitor but would obviously have to take a considerable paycut when considering his current, astronomical earnings.
Were he to indeed leave Al-Nassr, Ronaldo would depart at a time when generational rival Lionel Messi is heavily linked to their arch nemesis Al-Hilal.
El Chiringuito reported that Messi has accepted an astronomical €350 million ($375 million) a year offer to join them and snub FC Barcelona, but this has been denied by his father and agent Jorge Messi who has stated that nothing will be decided until the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner finishes the Ligue 1 season with Paris Saint Germain on Sunday.
