With the introduction of its first Research Week, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has made a significant advancement in encouraging research and fostering academic achievement.

The goal of this week-long event, with the theme "Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future," is to advance knowledge in science and technology by fostering an environment that will support pertinent research, excellent instruction, entrepreneurship training, and community engagement to improve people's quality of life.

KNUST, which is renowned for having a research-intensive agenda, aims to promote the brilliant research carried out by its teachers, students, and collaborators in a variety of fields.

The beginning of this commemoration, which took place on Monday, May 29, 2023, was timed to mark the establishment of the Office of Grant and Research (OGR) by KNUST, established in 2013 to support research efforts and offer research management services.

The inaugural Research Excellence Awards will be presented at KNUST's Great Hall on Friday, June 2, 2023, as the last event of Research Week, which also includes a scientific conference and symposium.

These honours are intended to acknowledge researchers who have made particularly noteworthy contributions to the grant portfolio and research activities at KNUST.

Both Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, pro vice chancellor and chair of the board of OGR, and Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, chairman of the KNUST Council, attended the event as distinguished guests.

Renowned speakers at the event include Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency; Professor Solomon Ofori-Acquah, Director of the West African Genetic Medicine at the University of Ghana; and Professor Richard Adanu, Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

In an effort to stimulate young minds, KNUST is welcoming junior high school children from the neighbourhood and exposing them to job prospects in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) research.

The Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, emphasised the university's dedication to research as seen by its 2020–2024 Action Plan.

This strategy intends to establish KNUST as an internationally competitive research-intensive university, advancing science and technology for economic and social growth and promoting sustainable development at the local, regional, and international levels.
