According to manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle will scour the globe for the players who will give them the depth they need to contend next season.

Howe's team will have a heavier task the following season because it will be their first appearance in the Champions League in 20 years. The manager and club executives have already discussed resources for the transfer window.

Newcastle has struggled with injuries at times this season despite finishing in the top three in the Premier League for the first time since 2003.

The Sunday 1-1 draw at Chelsea, which marked the end of Howe's first full season in command, left him with the impression that his team lacked the quality in reserve to go on and win the game.

He cited the Financial Fair Play regulations' constraints as the primary reason why being eligible for Europe's premier competition allowed the ownership to invest in hiring.

Howe cautioned the club, though, that the market might not be friendly as they work to develop a team that can compete on all fronts.

Yes, we discussed it (on Saturday)," the manager stated. Because there are so many factors involved, "I don't think (the budget) is ever outlined, but we definitely know where we stand,"It's never as huge as you want it to be when you're sitting in my shoes.

We need a little bit more depth because you're only one injury away from a very challenging scenario. You could tell (against Chelsea) that we're still not there, but we do have injuries. We certainly need to increase our resources, so it is definitely a problem for us. We can't have only one or two injuries while being in a precarious situation. We may not have had the bench available in the second half, which could have impacted the outcome of the game.

Newcastle controlled their destiny in the race for the top four by winning eight of their ten league games in March and April, but they only had one more victory in their final five games to lock up their Champions League spot.
