After a difficult season with Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp maintains he does not need a vacation from Premier League management.
After finishing outside the top four for the first time in a whole season under the German, the Reds were unable to advance to the Champions League.
Liverpool extended their undefeated streak in the top division to 11 games on Sunday with a thrilling 4-4 draw at relegated Southampton, but the late comeback was unable to make up for earlier disappointing defeats.
The longest-tenured manager in the division, Klopp, claims to be "full of energy" and prepared to turn around the club's fortunes heading into the summer.
The Reds manager said when asked if he needed a break: "No, no, no, not at all. In all honesty, I'm great.
To be honest, if you had asked me 11 games ago if I wanted a break, I probably would have given it some thought.
But I'm completely fine and energized.I am taking a break; I have no training or similar obligations. But perhaps it is the beginning of an extremely active time in a different part of the game. "I will find time to reenergise and then we start again in July." I'm more than happy to do that.
Liverpool's fifth-place finish was their worst since placing ninth in 2015–16, the year that Klopp took over as manager at Anfield in place of Brendan Rodgers.
Following early goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino at St Mary's, the Reds appeared poised to finish their season on a high note.
But when Kamaldeen Sulemana's double and goals from James Ward-Prowse and Adam Armstrong turned a chaotic game in Southampton's favor, quick-fire second-half goals from substitute Cody Gakpo and Jota were needed to prevent a big shock.
Klopp is determined to restore his team's fearsome reputation among opposing teams because he believes they have remained strong through some trying times.
When expectations are as high as ours, he remarked, "There is not much to learn (from the season), but a lot of clubs when things don't go well pretty quickly you start blaming each other." That wasn't the case here.I genuinely believed that this was the case for us: the better you act in a crisis, the better you come out of it.
