The strain for Howe's team next season will rise as they compete in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

According to manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle will scour the globe for the players who will give them the depth they need to contend next season.

Howe's team will have a heavier task the following season because it will be their first appearance in the Champions League in 20 years. The manager and club executives have already discussed resources for the transfer window.

Newcastle has struggled with injuries at times this season despite finishing in the top three in the Premier League for the first time since 2003.

The Sunday 1-1 draw at Chelsea, which marked the end of Howe's first full season in command, left him with the impression that his team lacked the quality in reserve to go on and win the game.

He cited the Financial Fair Play regulations' constraints as the primary reason why being eligible for Europe's premier competition allowed the ownership to invest in hiring.

Howe cautioned the club, though, that the market might not be friendly as they work to develop a team that can compete on all fronts.

Yes, we discussed it (on Saturday)," the manager stated. "I don't believe (the budget) is ever stated because there are so many factors involved, but we definitely are aware of our situation.

"It's never as huge as you want it to be when you're sitting in my shoes.

We need the depth because we will be participating in many tournaments the following year, so it's a challenging one. We have been lacking this year, in my opinion, especially in some sections of the field. In the second half of the season, we've played with four midfielders.

You only need one injury to put yourself in a precarious situation, therefore I believe we could use a little more depth.

"You could see (against Chelsea) that we're still not there, but we are dealing with injuries. We certainly need to increase our resources, so it is definitely a problem for us. We cannot be considering only one or two injuries while being in a precarious situation.
