SAM ALLARDYCE: THE LEEDS TEAM ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO STAY IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.

After losing to Tottenham on Sunday, United was demoted.

Following Sunday's 4-1 home loss to Tottenham that officially secured Leeds' Premier League relegation, manager Sam Allardyce claimed that the team's players had not performed well enough.

With four games left, Allardyce was Leeds' last-ditch effort, but after three losses and a tie, the 68-year-old was unable to hide the team's structural problems and save them.

Most of it boils down to how talented your players are, he said. I can't criticise these players' effort because they have worked extremely hard while I have been here.

But as a group, they haven't performed well enough, as evidenced by the fact that they are among the lowest three Premier League teams.

I accept responsibility for that because I had wanted to get a little bit more from them.

But it's a hard old world when things start going wrong, and when they go wrong and confidence starts to go, it's extremely hard to claw it back, and we haven't been able to do that.

Leeds' three-year stint in the Premier League is finished, and Allardyce was clear that their biggest downfall was the result of bad player recruiting.

"General recruitment is the number one factor for any manager, any coach, any head coach, or any club to be successful," he stated.

A manager, coach, and staff are only as good as the players they have access to and their skills without top-level recruitment.

"Recruitment is the key to real quality because better players and more intelligent players improve you as a coach, everyone at the club, and the club as a whole moving forward."

When Harry Kane gave Tottenham an early lead against Leeds in the second minute, Leeds' tenuous chances of escaping the drop on the final day appeared to be over.

The loud defiance of the Elland Road faithful in response was shortly followed by outrage as they hurled their rage at the Leeds board.

Leeds missed several first-half opportunities, and as has been the case all season, they paid the price when Pedro Porro gave Tottenham a 2-0 lead with a spectacular angled finish two minutes into the second half.
