According to 90min, Newcastle United is not concerned about the attention being paid to Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes because negotiations to sign the player to a new deal are still moving along.
Since his arrival in January 2022, Guimaraes has contributed to Newcastle's development into a legitimate power, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's most important midfielders as the Magpies finished fourth this season under Eddie Howe.
Although several teams in Europe have expressed interest in him due to his recent play, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, insiders have told 90min that Newcastle are not worried about losing Guimaraes this summer.
According to 90min, Guimaraes is quite content at St. James' Park and has been negotiating a sizable new contract for months. Newcastle is optimistic that they will have finalized an extension for the midfielder before the new campaign starts.
Barcelona is known to be a fan of Guimaraes, but it is not thought that he will be one of their main objectives this summer because the La Liga champions are not anticipated to have the funds necessary to accomplish such a transfer.
Instead, Manchester City's upcoming free agent Ilkay Gundogan remains a top target. Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad has also been mentioned as a potential replacement for departing midfielder Sergio Busquets, which is manager Xavi's primary area of concern.
Gundogan's City teammate Bernardo Silva is also high on Xavi's wish list, but the club has already set aside a significant amount of its extra cash to pursue a re-signing of Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona won't make any significant decisions on their transfer plan until La Liga approves their summer budget, with Messi expected to be a main priority. Barcelona must also find the money to pay for the signing of new contracts for Gavi and Ronald Araujo.
Despite Barcelona's interest, Newcastle is confident in a new contract for Bruno Guimaraes.
