Due to an injury, Jude Bellingham is predicted to miss England's upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers next month. There are concerns the Real Madrid-bound talent may need knee surgery.
Bellingham, who had led Dortmund to their first title in 11 years, was voted the 2022–23 Bundesliga Player of the Season at the age of 19.
However, the English teenager sat out the decisive match against Mainz at the weekend after being ineligible against Augsburg earlier in May. Without him, Dortmund went on to draw 2-2 and allowed Bayern Munich to overtake them late in the game to win their 11th straight championship.
Bellingham's outing against Borussia Monchengladbach on May 13—during which he scored—is likely to have been his final match for Dortmund. Bellingham was already wearing extensive strapping on his left knee during the closing weeks of the season as it was.
Sadly, his three years with the club could not end in a beautiful sunset.
After the Mainz tie, Dortmund manager Edin Terzic commented, "He didn't feel [fit] before the game. "He said he didn't feel ready to start and that we could turn him on for a few minutes if we needed him. He was really upset and passionate, but I have no doubt that he will prevail.
Bellingham is not anticipated to play when England next plays Malta and North Macedonia on June 13 and June 16, respectively, according to The Daily Mail. He was included in the squad that England manager Gareth Southgate unveiled last week, although it is anticipated that he will not play.
The possibility that surgery may be necessary to address the problem is the greater worry.
This summer, Bellingham will be the object of one of the priciest moves in football history. Real Madrid defeated Manchester City in the race to sign the former Birmingham star after Liverpool withdrew their interest due to the projected cost of a prospective deal.
Real and Bellingham had reached a personal understanding over a potential six-year contract that would bind him.
