Chelsea's left back Reece James shared a journal entry from his injury-related problems.
The 23-year-old England international missed last winter's World Cup after missing two months of action due to injured knee ligaments between October and December.
He made a brief comeback for a Premier League encounter against Bournemouth at the end of December, but he was forced off after an hour and missed another month with an injury.
James, who suffered a hamstring injury as well during the April loss to Real Madrid, recently opened out about his time on the sidelines.
Injury affects me so much, a handwritten diary post from May 18 at 11:44 p.m. states. I feel like the world is against me when I'm not playing," James penned. "Even the tiniest things will make me irrational. Even though it's not right or normal, it is what it is.
"I work so hard, but mentally it's hard, really hard, and exhausting. The general public perceives this "football life" as the ideal one, but let me assure you that it is anything but. It's a tumultuous trip with many highs and lows that many people may never experience.
"Where do I stand in that (at this time), the lowest point of my career thus far? It's terrible, but with perseverance and hard effort, things get better; without rain, nothing grows.
James also talked openly about improving his mental health. The England international continued, "Recently I've tried various things to take my mind off football, injuries, and how the season's gone.
"I started boxing, which I really enjoy, and I also really enjoy tennis. These are areas where I have no other thoughts, which helps me every day. I'll just say that tough situations provide big lessons.
I've developed personally so much. I appreciate what I've learned because I'll utilise it the next time I find myself in a sticky situation. Always, the cream rises to the top! I'm coming back. The best people never quit.
John 13:7, which states that Jesus replied, "What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later," was how he concluded his essay.
