Rio Ferdinand has urged Manchester United to focus on eliminating Rodri in Saturday's FA Cup final, believing Bruno Fernandes can silence the Manchester City star.
The rivals who meet in the Wembley derby with Man City are chasing three titles, have won the Premier League title and are strong contenders to beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final later this month.
United, the only English side to win the treble, could rob their city rivals of that historic moment while adding to their own title this season after winning the Carabao Cup in March.
Man City beat United 6-3 at the Etihad in their first game of the season before Marcus Rashford scored late for revenge in the reverse fixture in January.
Ferdinand identified centre-back Rodri as City's biggest threat that day, insisting United must have people around him to counter his threat when holding the ball from deep positions. The former defender believes Fernandes is the perfect man for the job, and believes it will help open up space for Rashford to exploit.
“I think I'll let Bruno replace Rodri,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five. “Everything great about this City team, most of it comes from him.
“I want someone who can run around him, but when we have the ball, run past and get away from him because he is such an integral part of what they are doing. Just stop him from getting the ball. This then allowed John Stones to come out and create a hole for the top three to run in.
"I want Rodri to keep quiet and I'll concede one of their four defenders to get the ball out, it's always been Stones lately, I want him to go as far as he wants when I see the likes of Rashford and Sancho. those big gaps.
Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho has found form in the final series of the tournament and could start on both flanks this weekend as Antony is suspected of injury.
While he has struggled to achieve consistency this season, Ferdinand believes the former Borussia Dortmund man needs to start.
“Sancho has recovered a bit and he has to stay in the team,” said Ferdinand.
"With Sancho, he has had glimpses, but he still has a long way to go to convince people that he is a real Man United player." Everyone expected him to be just a dribbler, but he was smart in the way he played.
"If he can flip and run away, that's when he can harm Kyle Walker. He won't beat him on the run, but if he can get people around him and play a game. trick and play ball for the runners, he's going to be a problem, but he needs the other team members to work for him to perform to the best of his ability.
