Tony Adams, a former Arsenal player, has cautioned that this season's campaign might be the best the Gunners will ever had.

The 2022–23 Premier League season saw Mikel Arteta's team battle Manchester City until the final few weeks, but they ultimately lost heartbreakingly.

The Gunners were not expected to compete for the English top-flight championship, but they surprised by hanging onto the top spot for the bulk of the season before running out of gas and losing the position to Pep Guardiola's club as the season came to a close.

The north London team nevertheless succeeded in their main objective of qualifying for the Champions League, but their earlier-season performances may have created hopes for more than a runners-up finish.

In an article written exclusively for The Sun, the former Arsenal and England defender issued a warning that many of the current crop of players may have 'already peaked' and may find it difficult to repeat their successes from this season.

I do worry that this might be the best things can get for them, he wrote.

I don't want to seem like a doomsday prophet, but I do think that a lot of this team has already reached its peak.

"They're not going to challenge Manchester City next season, and it will be difficult for them to repeat as runners-up without making significant additions this summer."

Adams cautioned that in order for Arsenal to advance and contend with Manchester City, which is vying for the Triple Crown, they would also need to bring in at least four experienced, physically imposing leaders.

Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham, has been connected to the club, but Adams claims that the club could be better served by acquiring an entertaining attacker instead. Rice could cost the club in the neighborhood of £100 million.

Despite a significant investment of about £400 million made since Arteta's arrival to strengthen the Gunners' starting XI, the club legend complained that there was not enough talent available to have an impact on games from the bench.

In order to maintain stability, Arsenal made few changes throughout the season, with the majority of the starting lineup only being replaced due to injury.

The illustrious defender countered that the Spaniard's unwillingness to make changes reflects his lack of confidence in his supporting cast.

He said, "I get the feeling that Arteta didn't have much faith in his back-up players because he chose the same team week after week even though some of them were pleading for a break."

We always had outstanding backup players on the bench every time I won the league with Arsenal.

They couldn't maintain their title challenge until the very end since there isn't someone of that caliber currently waiting in the Emirates wings.
