Billy Gilmour was sold by Chelsea last summer, and now that Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a new midfielder, Chelsea is regretting that decision.

Billy Gilmour has said that up until he found out he had to find a new team last summer, he wanted to stay at Chelsea. The 21-year-old was originally thought to have a promising future at Stamford Bridge, but Thomas Tuchel controversially sold him for under £9 million.

Gilmour described how it came as a shock to him to fast become an outcast at Cobham Training Ground in the official Brighton programme, as reported by Sussex Live. "After my (Norwich) loan, I still wanted to be at Chelsea, to be a part of their first-team plans, but quite quickly in preseason, I knew that wasn't going to be the case," the Scotland international stated.

But I didn't want to go out on loan once more; I wanted to settle down, find a place to live, and play for a team. I had other clubs interested, but once I learned that Brighton was also interested, I knew what I had to do.

Since then, I haven't looked back; all I want to do is play more games and advance. He continued, "I can see why Graham wanted to go to Chelsea, it's a great club with great players, but I put it behind me quite quickly," when asked why he picked the Amex Stadium.

"Graham departing a week after I joined was clearly weird, but that's football, and while he obviously had a say, first and

First and foremost, I was pleased that the club had signed me.

"It was just a little bit of bad luck on my end, but Roberto De Zerbi has come in, and he's been brilliant," the speaker said. He has been receiving strong, focused training, and the lads adore him.

This Premier League season, Gilmour made 14 appearances for Brighton, mostly filling in for Moises Caicedo. Despite the fact that he may not have had as many opportunities to play as he would have liked, Chelsea regrets selling him to the Seagulls for two reasons.

First of all, with Mateo Kovacic, N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and other probable departures in the summer, the Blues are now searching for a new midfielder. Gilmour would have been ready for a crucial role with Enzo Fernandez under Mauricio Pochettino had he stayed in west London.
