A number of owners are invited by Bugatti to experience 256 mph.
After the French automaker invited them for a special treat, Bugatti owners were able to take part in top-speed runs without having to deal with Johnny Law.
"The Bugatti 400 Drive" took place in April at Florida's Kennedy Space Center. There, 18 Bugatti owners from all over the world came together to drive their hypercars faster than 400 kilometers per hour (256 miles per hour), but not faster than 261 miles per hour, which is the speed limit that Bugatti had to set for their vehicles.
For the occasion, Bugatti selected the Launch and Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center, a historic and significant location. This 3-mile stretch, which was previously used as a NASA space shuttle landing site, provided the ideal setting for Bugatti owners to push their cars to their limits. We can see exactly what a Bugatti is made for by using the entire length of the runway without any restrictions. Exhibited conspicuously on the video are Bugatti Chiron Super Game models that can run up to 60 mph in only 2 seconds and can arrive at their maximum velocities effortlessly on account of the maximum velocity keys given at the occasion.
The Top Speed Key is activated when the autopilot ensures safety. It brings down the ride level and back wing to place the car in a low-drag design. To reduce front-axle downforce, two hydraulically operated flaps are moved in front of the wheels. This releases the maximum capacity of the displayed Bugatti models. Before their first runs, officials from the Bugatti race gave drivers a crash course to help them prepare for the physical and mental challenges they would face. During full-throttle acceleration, the participants will experience over 1G of longitudinal force, making it difficult for them to see the braking boards in the heat haze rising off the runway.
Owners received a personalized race suit and helmet engraved with their name, date, and highest speed achieved after the event, as well as a plaque commemorating the occasion.
Ferdinand Piech, the former chairman of the Volkswagen Group, was the inspiration for the experience. He had the idea for the brand to design a car that could go 256 mph in the morning and still take its owner to the opera in the evening. The Bugatti company pursued speed as a result of this challenge to its engineers. In response to Piech's instruction, the first Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was produced, and it has continued to shape the brand's identity.
