The Obosomase Methodist Basic School has received 21 brand-new laptops and accessories from the Tsenku Hiking Club in Obosomase, which is located in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The $160,000 worth of goods is intended to ease the difficulty of teaching information and communications technology (ICT) at the school and enhance teaching and learning of the topic.

In 2015, the school built an ICT lab, but there was no such equipment until the Tsenku Hiking Club intervened to change the story.

Presentation

Andrew Daniels, the club's leader, said at a presentation to the school last Friday that the group donated 90 pieces of equipment to the school, including desks and chairs, during the COVID-19 time in 2019.

He said it was in response to the headmistress' request that the school get a supply of furnishings.

He said that a charity excursion from Dansoman in Accra to Obosomase allowed the club to raise money for the acquisition of the things.

According to Mr. Daniels, the group chose to give back to society, especially the Obosomase School, where most of their trekking takes place, because they loved the institution so much.

During the group's charity walk, he said, they met a computer supplier who gave them assurances on the supplies and accessories. He also said that the provider would fix the computers for free if they ever broke down.

Emmanuel Abboah Offei, an ICT instructor who accepted the supplies on the school's behalf, previously stated that the school's teachers and students faced obstacles when it came to the teaching and learning of ICT.

He said that this was because teachers had to travel the roughly seven-kilometer journey each day—which he characterised as extremely difficult—in order to transport their own laptops from Mampong to Obosomase.

The students' performance in the ICT topic, notably during the Basic Education Certificate Examination since the practical component was not available, was badly impacted, according to Mr. Offei, who often sketched the computer components on the board for the students to study.

ICT challenges

ICT teaching and learning at the school have been particularly difficult, according to Joana Ofori Manteaw, the head teacher.

She believed that the Tsenku Hiking Club's assistance would enhance the teaching and learning of ICT, enabling the students to perform admirably in class and at the BECE.

She urged non-governmental groups to support the school's facility renovation.

Abigail Asare, a parent who was pleased with the presentation, told the Daily Graphic that giving the students access to computers will broaden their horizons because of the current digital era.
