Josh Morris has been released, according to Motherwell, who also provided an update on player contracts at the Scottish Premiership team.

The 31-year-old midfielder joined on a two-year agreement in July of last year from Salford.

Morris only made 12 appearances, with his last coming in a 2-1 loss to Celtic at home in November. He missed the game with an undisclosed injury.

14 further players, including Max Johnston, Jake Carroll, Dean Cornelius, Sean Goss, and Jack Aitchison, are unsigned, according to the Fir Park club, and negotiations are underway with a number of them.

James Furlong, Stuart McKinstry, Jon Obika, and Olly Crankshaw, who were on loan from other teams, have all returned to their original clubs, while Barry Maguire, Connor Shields, and Robbie Mahon will all be returning after brief stays at other teams.

"I want to personally thank each individual player for their efforts since I arrived at the club," Well manager Stuart Kettlewell said on the club's official website after replacing Steven Hammell in February."We are still speaking with a number of players at this very early stage of the summer and hope to get clarity on each situation very soon," the club said. "Everyone has made an impact at this club in their tenure and helped steer the club to not only another season in the Premiership, but to a strong finish that will only benefit this club at the start of next season.I send my best wishes for the future to the guys who are leaving the team.

"I also gave them some time off. For the better part of three weeks, we have been in training. We're prepared to leave. It hasn't been perfect, but it also hasn't been awful.

"We're doing everything in our power to try and get at Celtic and perhaps win the cup.

When you're the underdogs, you consider every factor. Against Aberdeen, they just made a statement indicating that they are back to their best. We are aware of our challenges.

"This league is all about fairytales and miracles, as seen by Darvel's victory over Aberdeen this year. We aim to achieve the same against Celtic, which would be a huge victory in and of itself.
