Neil Taylor, a former Wrexham defender, has warned the team's Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds to avoid a "circus" and big-name, "over the hill" players.

Since purchasing the team in February 2021, actors McElhenney and Reynolds have completely changed Wrexham, and after winning the National League title, the Dragons will return to the English Football League after a 15-year hiatus.

Following Wrexham's elevation, a number of well-known individuals have been associated with them, including former Real Madrid and Wales player Gareth Bale, whom McElhenney and Reynolds tried to persuade to come out of retirement.

Since Wrexham was promoted to the fourth tier, ex-Wales attacker Hal Robson-Kanu and ex-Blackburn and Norway midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen, both 41 years old, have both offered their services.

It cannot turn into a circus. Taylor, a former full-back for Swansea, Aston Villa, and Wales who started his professional career at Wrexham, said: "It's still a football club that needs to be successful because no one will pat you on the back if you don't do it right.

Leave the players who are past their prime. "I don't think you're getting in over Paul Mullin," I would tell Hal. Now that you're retired, he's a premier striker, right?League One and League Two are not as simple as people believe. Given the number of games, travel, and some of the venues you play at, it's arguably harder than when you play at a higher level.

Taylor, who was up in the adjacent town of Ruthin in north Wales, thinks Wrexham will make another strong push for promotion in League Two the following year.

Top scorer Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Elliot Lee, and captain Ben Tozer are among the team players of Phil Parkinson with the most EFL playing experience.

"Hopefully that success continues, and I don't see any reason why not with the squad they've got," added Taylor.

They will add players this summer, but they already have a team that is capable of competing well in League Two. However, if Wrexham knock on your door and you're a decent player in League One or League Two, you'll go there.
