A one-year contract extension has been reached between Caolan Boyd-Munce and St. Mirren, who have also announced the departures of star striker Curtis Main, Charles Dunne, Joe Shaughnessy, and Richard Tait.
The 23-year-old midfielder joined Saints in March on a contract that was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but the team has elected to exercise the option to extend it until the summer of 2024 with an appearance-based option for an additional year.
The Northern Irishman made three appearances for the Buddies last season, with his first start coming in Saturday's game against Rangers at The SMiSA Stadium. The player, who began his career at Glentoran, also spent time at Birmingham and Middlesbrough.
Caolan was never going to join the first team fold right immediately because he hadn't played in a while, manager Stephen Robinson said to stmirren.com.Three months ago, we could see what he was beginning to accomplish. The risk is sometimes worthwhile. He is distinct from what we already have. As he gets stronger and fitter, he will locate passes and set others up for goals. "We believe that come August/September, he has a real chance of starting games for us and pushing on," said one team official. He still has so much to offer.
We are a better squad because we have the possibility of bringing in a different kind of midfielder, one like Ethan Erhahon (who departed for Lincoln in January).
Robinson, who has 20 players under contract for the upcoming season, did not anticipate striker Main, 31, who has been an important member of the Paisley team since joining from Shrewsbury two years ago, to extend his stay in the city.
This summer, the former manager of Morecambe and Motherwell will also need to strengthen his defense.
Shaughnessy, the club captain, joined the Buddies from Southend in 2020 but left the team early in the season. He is 30 years old.
While full-back Tait, 33, also signed from the Steelmen in 2020, fellow center-back Dunne, 30, moved from Motherwell two years prior.
The Buddies website provided a team update that read: "Offers were made to captain Joe Shaughnessy, Curtis Main, and Charles Dunne, but all three have chosen that their futures lie elsewhere.
