The Sporting Lisbon star's agent, Manuel Ugarte, has previously said his client will "almost certainly" move the club this summer amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Ugarte has been linked with a move from Sporting for several months - and club manager Ruben Amorim has said it will be difficult to keep the Uruguayan after he failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The 22-year-old midfielder has caught the eye of Europe's premier league with his star performance this season, although he was sent off on his only visit to England this season as Sporting against Arsenal in the Europa League.

However, it is one of the few stains on Ugarte's notebooks, and he could rival Bruno Fernandes for the Sporting club record deal if he leaves this summer.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Fernandes is trying to usurp the Chelsea midfielder. Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that the Uruguayan is a top target for new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and the Blues are ready to pay the midfielder's €60m release clause. Liverpool and PSG have been credited with interest.

The player's agent has been actively supporting these clubs so that they can sign Ugarte this summer.

What did Ugarte's agent say?

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo in early May, Jorge Chijane said a move for Ugarte was imminent - and super agent Jorge Mendes would help broker a deal. He explains (quoting over 90 minutes):

"It is almost certain that he will leave. I will go to Lisbon soon.

"I trust Jorge Mendes, the best businessman in the world. In fact, when I told him about Ugarte for the first time, he said:

"Your eyes are my eyes".

"There is a lot of talk, but they [Liverpool] are not the only club, there are other clubs. There's a lot of talk, but I'm still not sure which club [he's going to join] which club.

"There are a lot of theories put forward. I think in 15 days the situation will be resolved."

Since Chijane's comment was made on May 11, the 15-day prediction turned out to be incorrect.

But it could still be a done deal at the start of the transfer window - and it looks like United and Chelsea will be fighting to sign Ugarte.
