FANS CONVINCED EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL WAS 'RIGGED' AFTER SEVILLA BEAT AS ROMA

Angry fans believe the Europa League final has been 'rigged' in favor of Sevilla, who beat AS Roma on penalties on Wednesday.


Sevilla won their seventh Europa League title after beating Jose Mourinho's Roma in Budapest.


Paulo Dybala opened the scoring with a beautiful left-footed finish in the 34th minute as the La Liga side equalized thanks to a Gianluca Mancini own own goal.


The match went into extra time before a penalty shoot-out, where Jose Luis Mendilibar's side won after Gonzalo Montiel retook a retaken penalty.

However, Sevilla's win over Roma was not warmly received by fans on social media as they expressed their feelings about the clash.


They believe the competition was 'cheated' as fans were outraged over Fernando's alleged handball in the penalty area and the penalty being retaken in the penalty shootout.


One Twitter user wrote:

"This match was rigged. Roma and Mourinho were robbed. Football lost today. I don't understand how Sevilla can play the ball with their hands so blatantly."

A second tweet:

"The match between AS Roma and Sevilla was arranged against Jose Mourinho. He should not have taken the penalty."



The third added:

"That match was clearly rigged for Sevilla."


The fourth said:

"Sevilla cheated, Roma stolen."


Another commented:

"Sevilla was too cheated to win. I couldn't stand it at the time."

After the result, Mourinho handed a second medal to a young fan while Mendilibar talked about the importance of scoring right after the break.


"When they scored against us, you would think it would be difficult to score against them. The equalizer came quickly in the second half and gave us strength to keep fighting to win," he said.
