Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, a former Huddersfield youth player, believes that if players are not given adequate assistance when they are in a difficult situation, they may endanger themselves.

After suffering a major knee injury, the defender was forced to retire in 2020 at the age of just 24.

When his career was cut short, Holmes-Dennis required counseling. While he believes that concern for player welfare has increased, he maintains that there needs to be a sustained effort to help individuals in need.

Holmes-Dennis is concerned about other people's mental health in light of the suicide of former Manchester City player Jeremy Wisten in 2020 after he was released from the hospital following a struggle with a knee injury.

"When you see young boys who have committed suicide because they are unable to handle the pressures of being released, it should never reach that point,"

Avoid making it the standard. There are so many people suffering through difficult mental circumstances. It is beginning to receive a little more attention. Particularly some clubs invest time and energy in providing resources to players because, in the end, it's the players that carry the team.Although it's still relatively new, mental health, player welfare, and making sure players are in a good physical and emotional space, their wellbeing should be at the forefront. That now has a magnifying glass, which is advantageous since it is simple to observe from the outside and say, "You're paid to do X, Y, and Z."

It's obvious that an effort is being made to comprehend what gamers experience and how best to help them.

The 27-year-old, who is currently employed by the agency Wasserman, was on loan from Huddersfield at Fratton Park when he sustained a catastrophic knee injury on his Portsmouth debut in 2017.

After three years of injury struggles and failed return attempts, he slipped on the synthetic surface around the field and was forced to retire early.

Others who played with Holmes-Dennis at Pompey, Jack Whatmough and Jack Robinson, have recovered from a comparable injury.

However, the ex-England Under-18 international felt abandoned after being forced to resign.
