Lionel Messi has earned the right to pursue his career in any way he sees fit, but Shaka Hislop would really want to see the Argentine great play in the Major League Soccer.
After his contract expires, Messi seemed destined to depart from Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi will play his final match for PSG on Saturday when the Ligue 1 champions host Clermont, according to Christophe Galtier on Friday.
It appears to be the end of the road for the 35-year-old in Paris, even if the club later told AFP that Galtier had "expressed himself incorrectly and that the match against Clermont would be Messi's last at the Parc with PSG this season," according to L'Equipe.
According to reports, Barcelona is eager to bring Messi back to Catalonia, and Saudi Arabia, where Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays and Karim Benzema appears to be moving, is also interested.
However, MLS team Inter Miami has long been said to be interested as well. Former goalkeeper Hislop, who finished his own career in the United States with FC Dallas, would be ecstatic to see Messi move across the Atlantic.
"It would be incredibly huge for MLS, which continues to grow in so many ways," Hislop said to Stats Perform.
"I believe it draws attention to this league and increases appreciation for a league that has largely based its expansion on bringing in young, talented South American players,"
Since I attended university here, I have firsthand knowledge of US Soccer during the late 1980s and early 1990s, which has made me a major supporter of the league and its expansion.I find it amazing just to watch how it has evolved now, therefore I would love to see him join MLS and give the sport the attention he alone can provide.
Messi joined PSG in 2021 and has since made his debut contributed directly to 66 goals (32 goals and 34 assists), which is second only to Kylian Mbappe (106) among his teammates.
However, Messi has occasionally come under fire from PSG supporters, particularly when the team suspended him.
