Karim Benzema’s future is set to be decided in the next few days, as a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo looms.
Real Madrid is eagerly awaiting a potential reunion between Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, as the French striker's future hangs in the balance and he contemplates an offer from an undisclosed Saudi Arabian club. The 35-year-old, who currently has a year left on his contract with Real Madrid, has reportedly received a massive proposal from the Middle Eastern club, which could see him pocket a staggering £345 million over a two-year period. Recent reports suggest that Benzema might bid farewell to the Santiago Bernabeu as early as Sunday, with the deal set to be finalized by Thursday.
Sources from Sky Italia indicate that Benzema is carefully considering the lucrative offer, with the Saudi club hoping to secure his services swiftly. If the deal materializes, it would provide the Ballon d'Or winner an opportunity to prepare for his departure, coinciding with Athletic Bilbao's visit to the Bernabeu to conclude the LaLiga season.
However, despite the uncertainty surrounding Benzema's future, Real Madrid seems open to the prospect of his departure this summer, even though they do not currently have a direct replacement lined up. In early May, manager Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged the need for a new striker in preparation for Benzema's eventual exit, stating that "the project for the future for the club is to sign a No. 9." Ancelotti also acknowledged Benzema's contributions and his consistent performances, while highlighting the progress made by Rodrygo and Marco Asensio in the forward positions.
If Benzema does leave, there have been suggestions that Tottenham's Harry Kane could be a potential replacement for the Frenchman. Benzema has been an integral part of Real Madrid since joining in 2009, becoming the club's second highest goal scorer of all time with 354 goals, behind only Ronaldo, who netted 450 goals during his time at the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo and Benzema formed a formidable partnership during their nine-year spell together at Real Madrid. However, Ronaldo departed for Juventus in 2018 after establishing himself as one of the greatest players in the club's history. He later returned to Manchester United before joining Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia in December 2022. Despite not winning any trophies with Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has made a significant impact, scoring 14 goals in 19 appearances and boosting interest in the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo has expressed his belief that the Saudi league has the potential to become one of the top five leagues in the world, given the country's infrastructure and passionate football fans.
