Haaland says he understands what winning the national cup final means for the Blues faithful
Erling Haaland has promised Manchester City fans that the team will 'do their best' to beat rivals Manchester United in Saturday's FA Cup final to keep their dream of trebles and bragging rights to the Derby.
The Blues are aiming for their first FA Cup since 2019, the only time they have lifted the trophy under Pep Guardiola. Haaland called on his team-mates to put on a "great performance" to beat United in their first ever FA Cup final in Manchester.
The 22-year-old scored a hat-trick against the Reds in October's 6-3 win at the Etihad, while also providing two assists. However, he found no joy in the reverse match in January when the controversial equalizer from Bruno Fernandes and striker Marcus Rashford helped the home team win 2-1.
Haaland detailed how he wants revenge at Wembley on Saturday as he looks to increase his 51-goal tally for the season.
Speaking to the FA media team before the clash, Haaland said he understood the seriousness of the cup final against United, emphasizing:
"We know how important this game is for the fans.
“We want to make them proud and we will do our best to make them happy. We had an incredible result at the Etihad in the Premier League, a very special day in my first Manchester derby, before a disappointing result in the first leg. We need another great performance to try to win.
The final comes just two weeks after Haaland shook hands with the Premier League trophy after a record 36 goals in the competition. He emphasized how he enjoys playing in an all-star City team, praising the mentality of his colleagues.
The attacker added:
"I love playing in this team with my teammates. We have a great team here and it's special to play in this team.
"Everybody has the same ambition and the same desire every day to be the best and that's what I love. After lifting the Premier League title a few weeks ago in front of our fans, our attention turned to the next challenge shortly thereafter.
