David Beckham has released a statement following the brutal dismissal of Phil Neville at Inter Miami.

The Miami-based team announced Thursday that it has parted ways with Neville amid a string of poor results in the MLS.

Under Neville, Inter Miami lost 10 of their 15 games as they finished last in the Eastern Conference.

Inter Miami's 0-1 loss at home to the New York Red Bulls was the last straw, with the 48-year-old deciding to fire his former Manchester United team-mate.

He spoke of the "difficult decision" to release Neville from his duties at the club in a statement posted online.

"Phil has made a real contribution to the culture of our club with his leadership qualities and knowledge as a coach," Beckham said after Neville's departure.

"Sometimes in this game we have to make the hardest decisions and unfortunately we think now is the time for a change."

Neville added:

"I would like to thank the Inter Miami CF Owners Team for their trust and involvement in this project; the players and staff for their impressive commitment, dedication and hard work; and the fans admired for their unwavering support of the Club since day one. "I am grateful for having contributed to the development of this club and wish Inter Miami CF all the best in the future."

It looks like pressure is mounting on Neville, who lashed out at a reporter after the club's loss to Orlando City last week.

The 46-year-old lost his temper during his post-match press conference when he lashed out at a reporter, asking him to show respect.
