Despite winning the Bundesliga championship on Saturday for the 11th straight year, the Bavarian giants had a disastrous 2022–23 season and are getting ready for a complete makeover.
The club fired former head coach Julian Nagelsmann in March for infighting in the locker room and playing below the bar set by the organization. Thomas Tuchel was then hired, however neither the German Cup nor Champions League seasons were saved.
On the last day of the season, with title challengers two points clear at the top of the table, the defending champions came perilously close to losing the league for the first time since 2012, but instead triumphed thanks to the success of their opponents.
According to the German publication Bild, Bayern are prepared to substantially alter their attacking line-up following the poor campaign, with none of the three players guaranteed their spot in the squad for the following year.
Only a year after moving to Bavaria from Liverpool, Sadio Mane would be acquired, but his first Bundesliga campaign was a failure.
The left winger, who scored seven goals in 25 league games, was frequently benched by Nagelsmann and Tuchel and battled injuries at the beginning of the season.
His violent altercation with Sane following the first leg of their Champions League match against Manchester City, though, further hampered his chances of having a season to make amends.
The incident resulted in Mane's suspension from the team and hefty fine after the Senegal international struck his teammate, cutting his lower lip and leaving him wounded.
The player and Nagelsmann had previously spat over playing time, with the player addressing the ex-manager in front of his startled teammates.
Both Sane and Gnabry have had inconsistent seasons, however Gnabry, a former Arsenal youth prospect, started the season primarily on the bench until finding his form in the final stages of Bayern's campaign.
At the same time, the club is getting ready for a busy summer of signings, with Tuchel putting his main attention on gaining the services of Declan Rice, the captain of West Ham.
According to reports, the former Chelsea manager promised to organize his midfield around the England star as part of a charm campaign to entice the player away from the Premier League.
Rice is rumored to be worried about moving his small family, but the midfielder and his father have both spoken to Tuchel on the phone.
Bayern is also considering offers for Harry Kane and Julian Alvarez in order to strengthen their assault.
After Oliver Kahn, the club's chief executive, and Hasan Salihamidzic, a board member, were fired hours after the squad won the championship, the club is expected to undergo significant changes both on and off the field.
