Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry, chose his nomination form Wednesday, making him the eighth flag-bearer candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), which will have its presidential primary on November 4.

Two teams of 15 market queen moms from Accra and Kumasi, all clad in traditional kente over white lace, selected the forms on his behalf.

In keeping with their previous commitment, the queenmothers—described as Mr. Kyerematen's supporters—bought nomination forms by pooling their funds to boost the filing fee.

Former NPP national secretary Nana Ohene Ntow led the caravan to the party's headquarters in Accra, backed by other key party officials like Alhaji Abukar Sadiq, Joseph Nii Ayikoi Otoo, a former minister of justice and attorney general, and Yaw Boaben Asamoah, a former director of communications.

Speeches Speaking on behalf of Mr. Kyerematen, the Tomato Queenmother of Kumasi, Abena Serwaa, said it was time to express gratitude to the former Minister of Trade and Industry for his support of the market women during his tenure in that position.

She said they had no doubt Mr. Kyerematen would help revive Ghana's faltering economy if given the go-ahead.

For his part, Mr. Boaben Asamoah asserted that with Mr. Kyerematen at the wheel, the presidency will go in the proper direction because "he's a man of action and not mere words."
