After Joe Shaughnessy made a commitment to join the surefire Championship championship winners, Tony Docherty was able to make his first signing as Dundee's manager.

When his contract with St Mirren expires the following week, the former defender for Aberdeen, Southend, and St Johnstone will go on to Dundee.

"I worked with Joe as a young player at Aberdeen, and he is the type of person I want at this football club," Docherty said on the club's website.I am aware of what to expect from Joe. His work ethic and attitude are excellent. He has led St. Johnstone and St. Mirren as their captain, giving him extensive league experience.

I'm glad he opted to sign with us because there was fierce competition from other clubs to sign him.

The Irish defender declined a stay-in offer from Paisley in favor of moving on.

The 30-year-old expressed his excitement about beginning work at Dundee and reuniting with the boss. I've had good conversations with him over the past several days, and I can't wait to arrive and get going on the first day of preseason.

Prior to joining Dens Park, Lee Ashcroft and Harrison Sharp signed two-year contracts.

"I have loved my three years at the club so far and am looking forward to hopefully a successful season in the top division after winning the league last year," said Ashcroft, a 29-year-old former defender for Kilmarnock and Dunfermline.

Sharp, the goalkeeper, played in 14 games last year.

"I thoroughly enjoyed last season, and some of the memories that we made as a squad are memories that will last forever," the 22-year-old added. "Now I can't wait to be back playing in the league where we belong."

Since promotion was won early last month, the two have joined goalkeeper Adam Legzdins, veteran fullback Cammy Kerr, and homegrown midfielder Lyall Cameron in deciding to stay.

Alex Jakubiak, Jordan Marshall, Paul McMullan, Luke Strachan, Paul McGowan, and Cillian Sheridan were not extended new contracts, the Dark Blues said earlier this week.
