Havertz has made Real Madrid transfer feelings clear amid Chelsea exit
There are reports linking Chelsea's Kai Havertz with a potential move to Real Madrid as a replacement for Karim Benzema. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid holds a concrete interest in the player, and Carlo Ancelotti, who admires Havertz, is said to be behind the pursuit. Romano also suggests that Chelsea would be open to discussing a transfer for the German midfielder to the Spanish capital.
The connection between Ancelotti and Havertz is not surprising, as they have crossed paths multiple times in recent years. During Ancelotti's stint as Bayern Munich manager, Havertz was making a name for himself at Bayer Leverkusen. Furthermore, the two have faced each other in the UEFA Champions League when Chelsea and Real Madrid clashed in the last two seasons.
The potential transfer to Real Madrid could become more plausible if Karim Benzema decides to leave La Liga for a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. This would leave the Spanish club with a void to fill, and Havertz could be seen as a suitable solution. Even new Real Madrid manager Mauricio Pochettino might be unable to prevent Havertz from departing Chelsea under these circumstances.
Havertz has expressed his desire to play for Real Madrid in the past, as reported by Marca during his move to Stamford Bridge in 2020. Real Madrid was reportedly prepared to sign Havertz, and he had even turned down offers from Bayern Munich to make his dream move to the Spanish club. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those plans could not materialize, and Havertz ended up joining Chelsea in the Premier League.
Since joining Chelsea, Havertz has shown his ability to perform in crucial moments, notably scoring the winning goal in the 2021 UEFA Champions League Final. Despite a challenging season in front of goal for the German international and his teammates, he finished as Chelsea's top scorer in the 2022/23 campaign. This suggests that Havertz has the potential to thrive as a central attacker. Whether he fulfills this potential at Chelsea or Real Madrid remains uncertain and will only be revealed with time.
