Following violent attacks on the Mempeasem and Lukula villages in the Savannah Region, the Ghana Police reacted quickly.
In relation to conflicts between rival factions engaged in chieftaincy and land disputes, three people have been detained, and more are being sought.
A group of around fifty people broke into the Mempeasem neighbourhood on May 30, 2023, and kidnapped a guy who was 50 years old.
The police responded to the assault by becoming involved, which led to the gang running into the bush. After successfully rescuing the abducted victim, law enforcement officers confiscated one AK-47 rifle, 14 rounds of ammunition, seven motorcycles, and two bicycles from the site. An additional bag carrying 240 rounds for the AK-47 was found during the subsequent search.
On June 1, 2023, while they persisted in their efforts, the police were alerted by a distress call that another attack on the Lukula village had been carried out by a different gang.
The attackers were acting destructively, torching homes and shooting people at random. The suspects fired when they saw the police, drawing a quick reaction. Three suspects—Razak Sulemana, Musah Shanun, and Karim Abdul Rafiuw—were consequently detained. All three of the suspects were shot during their arrest, and they are now being treated at a hospital.
One pump-action gun, two single-barrel firearms, a long knife, 80 live cartridges, as well as talismans and cowries connected to their operations, were found after additional searches of the suspects.
Tragically, it was found that an 81-year-old member of the Lukula village was allegedly shot and murdered on his property during the shooting spree. The victim was taken to a medical facility by the police, who were called and assisted by the victim's children. The police declared him dead, and his corpse was sent to the hospital for preservation and an autopsy.
Some people who are thought to be supporters of the inmates attacked the Daboya Police Station in response to the arrests and the return of calm. They harmed the louvre blades within the barracks and damaged parked automobiles engaged in accidents. The police were able to repel the onslaught and recover control of the situation, though.
To stop additional assaults, the security situation has been improved in Daboya and other areas. Currently, efforts are being made to arrest all of the perpetrators—including those responsible for the assault on the police station—so they may be brought to justice.
