The Ministry of Health has guaranteed Zipline, the well-known drone delivery service provider, the government's steadfast support in guaranteeing the sustainability of its operations in an effort to improve the delivery of essential medical supplies to healthcare institutions.
The promise was given at a celebration for the fourth anniversary of government and Zipline cooperation held at the Zipline Omenako Hub, which was also attended by officials from the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health, and the US Ambassador to Ghana.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Health Hon. Mahama Asei Seini emphasised the government's dedication to fostering an atmosphere that will allow Zipline to function.
"As a ministry funded by the government, we are committed to creating an atmosphere where Zipline may flourish while streamlining routine tasks to better assist disadvantaged groups. We will work with the business to update the present standard operating procedures and handle any operational issues that may arise. Rest confident that the government will continue to support your activities through the Ministry of Health.
The minister further stated that the government is considering using Zipline drones outside of the healthcare delivery supply chain. He stated that drones had already been used in several trial projects to transport emergency supplies in flood conditions. According to him, this will be Zipline's next area of concentration as it looks to use its drone services in more lucrative sectors.
In response to the government's promise, Mawuli Atiemo, Zipline's country manager, thanked the ministry and emphasised the company's commitment to its purpose in Ghana.
"We value the government's and the Ministry of Health's ongoing assistance. We are devoted to furthering our operational improvements to provide better healthcare for all Ghanaians. According to the general manager, Zipline has positively impacted the lives of more than 20 million people through an amazing 370,000 deliveries of medical supplies to more than 2,700 healthcare facilities nationwide.
Drones from Zipline have been delivering vital drugs, vaccinations, and blood to hospitals around the nation for the past four years. Infants who were previously at risk of dying from illnesses that may be prevented by vaccination now greatly benefit from these accelerated births.
Due to a scarcity of medical supplies, moms who have life-threatening difficulties during childbirth receive prompt medical care without being forwarded to other hospitals.
The relationship between Zipline and the government of Ghana is praised as a great example of effective public-private sector cooperation. Together, they have built a seamless network of drone delivery services that have overcome geographic obstacles, sped up delivery, and saved many lives, earning Ghana international acclaim as a pioneer in the application of drones for medical logistics.
