In their fight for a sure Premiership survival, Ross County must overturn a two-goal deficit against Partick Thistle on Sunday, and Jordan White acknowledges that confidence is essential.
The Staggies lost 2-0 in the first leg of the play-off final on Thursday night at Firhill, where they played for the majority of the game with 10 men after 16-year-old defender Dylan Smith was dismissed in the 17th minute for denying Championship team's Aidan Fitzpatrick an obvious chance to score.
With his 21st goal of the year right before the break, veteran Jags forward Brian Graham gave Kris Doolan's team a commanding lead heading into the return leg in Dingwall.
Staggies striker White, however, insists that the match is still not finished.
"I don't think I would have taken 2-0 at any time," the 31-year-old remarked, "but under the circumstances, I think we did well to come out the way we have."The belief in the squad is always there and there's no point turning up thinking you can't do it as you are on to a loser then. The first half isn't how we intended it to go, but we have another game to make it right. There is only a half-time difference in the tie.Since the split, I believe we have played rather well, with the exception of the Kilmarnock game (3-1 loss).
Now that Sunday is all that remains, we must take care of ourselves and perform well. "Partick have had a good night on Thursday but we have to take our medicine and move on," said one of the players in the locker room.
White thinks home advantage might be "massive" as County attempts to salvage the match against a Jags team that has gone 11 games without a loss.
Partick played well, but facing 10 men for 75 minutes perhaps made it a little bit easier for them, he claimed. We can't use it as an excuse, but we are confident going into the game because we know what we can do.
