Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, has disputed rumors that Karim Benzema will leave the team this summer.
This week, there were reports all over Europe that the Frenchman was considering the Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad's nine-figure contract offer.
Benzema even informed Florentino Perez, the club president, that he intended to accept such an offer, but 90min understands the striker afterwards changed his mind and indicated that he will continue at Real Madrid for an additional year.
Benzema was questioned about these rumors during a recent award event hosted by the Spanish publication Marca.
"Since I'm in Madrid, why am I going to talk about the future?" Benzema declared. The internet is the topic of conversation, but the internet is not reality.
Ancelotti was questioned about Benzema's future at the Santiago Bernabeu during a press conference held prior to Real Madrid's final match of the 2022–23 season.
"I agree with Karim, the internet is not reality," he retorted. "We have no worries that Benzema will remain under contract with Real Madrid for one more year, until 2024. It seems obvious to me.
"Real Madrid is where the legends of this team must call it quits. I hold these views, and so does the club. The gamer, though, may not share your perspective.
Prior to this weekend's match against Athletic Club, Benzema's health had been a question, but Ancelotti has reaffirmed that he will play in the season's last match.
According to sources who have confirmed this to 90min, Karim Benzema has informed Real Madrid that he plans to remain with the team and would not accept a move to Saudi Arabia at this time.
In March, the 35-year-old and Real initially came to new terms on a new one-year contract that was scheduled to be signed at the conclusion of current season. He turned down a two-year, €200 million deal from Saudi Arabia's Pro League, though, to join the newly crowned champions Al-Ittihad.
