After announcing his intention to leave Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer, Marco Asensio has said goodbye to the club's supporters.
The 27-year-old, who was born and raised in Mallorca, relocated to Madrid in the summer of 2015, and after spending a year on loan with Espanyol, swiftly cemented his position as an important player in the senior squad at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asensio has made 285 appearances for Real in all competitions, with 144 of those coming as a starter. However, he is now likely to leave the team after his contract expires and is anticipated to sign with Paris Saint-Germain.
In a video uploaded to social media, Asensio addressed the Madrid faithful, saying, "Dear madridistas, today I address you with a lump in my throat and a heart full of mixed feelings." Real Madrid became my love, my desire, and my most prized aspiration ever since I was a young child. And I've had the honor of seeing this dream realized over the course of these beautiful years.
"I'd want to take this occasion to convey my sincere thanks to Real Madrid, including the club's president, board of directors, coaches, and all the individuals who diligently work behind the scenes to make this club such a remarkable institution.
"I also want to thank my teammates. Together, we have experienced triumphant moments, engaged in valiant combat, and rejoiced.
"However, I must not overlook the amazing fans of Real Madrid who make the club what it is. You are the heart and soul of our group. We give it our all in every game and have wonderful nights that I will always remember thanks to your dedication, support, and unwavering love.
"However, I've reached a point when I must make a difficult choice. In order to find a project where I can accomplish new objectives, I have made the decision to take my career in a different path.
"I appreciate your unorthodox support, dear Madridistas. We will eventually meet someplace on this lovely soccer path.
