Steven Nzonzi has talked about Lionel Messi's prospective relocation to Saudi Arabia ahead of a significant decision regarding his future.
According to Steven Nzonzi, Lionel Messi has nothing left to prove in his career and would have a lot of reasons to enjoy playing in Saudi Arabia.
After two years, it appears that Messi's time at Paris Saint-Germain is coming to an end. He has been connected with a move to Saudi Arabia, where longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays for Al-Nassr.
While the World Cup winner has frequently been linked to the idea of concluding his career in the United States, his former club Barcelona is also courting him in LaLiga.
Nzonzi, who spent two seasons in the Middle East playing for Al-Rayyan in Qatar, knows Messi, 35, must make a significant decision. A move would have far-reaching effects on the area that go beyond football.
Nzonzi believes Messi shouldn't feel any pressure to pursue the game's top honors now that Argentina has won the World Cup, despite the possibility of a return to the "club of his heart," Barcelona, maybe being alluring.
"If you are Messi, I think that you have done everything in football, so you can do whatever you want and be okay with your decision," Nzonzi told Stats Perform.
"There is practically nothing left for you to prove. He hasn't had anything left to prove for years and years now, yet he recently won the World Cup as well.
"Therefore, I'd say it was a simple decision for him. I don't know if it will be simple because he has to choose between Saudi Arabia and Barcelona, his favorite team.
But in any event, going to Saudi Arabia would be fantastic for that country. You would have Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, two of the greatest players in history and the most well-known. It's fantastic for Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and football in general.
