Lionel Messi has parted ways with Paris Saint-Germain in a brief statement after the French club confirmed he would be leaving at the end of the season.
Messi has helped PSG win two consecutive Ligue 1 titles after joining on a free transfer from Barcelona in July 2021.
The 35-year-old, who won the World Cup with Argentina last year, has scored 32 goals in 74 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain.
“I want to thank the club, the city of Paris and its inhabitants for the past two years. I wish you all the best in the future," he told PSG's official website. In a separate interview, Messi said:
"I'm very happy to represent PSG, I really enjoy playing in this team and with such good players. I want to thank the club for this great experience in Paris.'
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, CEO of Paris Saint-Germain, added:
"I want to thank Leo Messi for two seasons in Paris.
"Watching the player win the Ballon d'Or seven times in the Rouge & Bleu and Parc des Princes, win consecutive Ligue 1 titles and inspire our young players is a joy.

"His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future."
Messi intends to continue playing after leaving the French capital and has attracted considerable interest from three parties.
Barcelona are considering the possibility of re-signing the Camp Nou legend, who has won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues at the club. But Barca face fierce competition from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal - who are ready to offer a £2billion deal - and MLS side Inter Miami.
Discussing his interest in signing Messi earlier this week, Barcelona coach Xavi said:
"The priorities are clear, I really want Messi back.
'[Messi] knew it and I talked to him. From here, in addition to Leo, the remaining priority is a midfielder [to replace Sergio Busquets leaving] in the ideal scenario.
