Juventus has declared their intention to leave the controversial European Super League initiative.
Along with Real Madrid and Barcelona, La Vecchia Signora is one of three clubs that have continued to support the Super League initiative that was first presented in 2021.
The other nine clubs who initially agreed to participate in the exclusive competition were Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid, but they later withdrew after receiving a ferocious backlash from fans.
However, Juventus, who were hit with a ten-point reduction toward the end of the 2022–2023 Serie A season for alleged financial irregularities relating to transactions and were also fined €718,000, have now declared their intention to abandon the undertaking.
In response to rumors that surfaced in today's press, Juventus Football Club S.pA ("Juventus" or the "Company") announces that it has sent a communication to the two other clubs that, like Juventus, have not yet withdrawn from the Super League Project (Football Club Barcelona and Real Madrid Club de Futbol), in order to kick off a discussion period between the three clubs about Juventus' potential withdrawal from the Super League Project.
Juve also stated that it was untrue to say that UEFA had threatened them with exclusion from European play if they persisted in their Super League scheme.
"The Company will move forward with any legal communications that are required after the conclusion of the discussions and assessments regarding the aforementioned, making it clear that many of the media's reconstructions of the communication's contents (including any mention of purported threats of potential sanctions by UEFA) are untrue. Please refer to the company's press announcements from April 19 and April 21, 2021, for further details on the Super League Project.
The future of manager Massimiliano Allegri is understood to be in serious danger, therefore there may be more commotion at the Allianz Stadium. Igor Tudor, a former defender, has suddenly become available, and Juventus is taking the Italian's situation into consideration. Tudor confirmed his impending departure from Marseille before Marseille's final Ligue 1 match of the season.
