A free health screening initiative by the Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM), the Greater Accra Regional Muslim Council, and the Rashia's Foundation has helped some 500 inhabitants of Bukom and its surroundings.

The activity was a part of the company's effort to fulfil its corporate social responsibility commitment to both its clients and the locals in the locations in which it oper

Customers had tests for cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, blood sugar, eye and dental conditions, malaria, hepatitis B, breast cancer, HIV, and hepatitis C.

Beneficiaries were concurrently tested and provided free medicine, while those found to have issues were directed to the proper medical facility for additional testing and treatment.

Imam Sheikh Boye, Regional PRO for the Greater Accra Regional Muslim Council, Imam Mohammed Tagoe, Imam Sheikh Boye, Imam Sheikh Boye, students from the medical schools for UG, staff, workers, volunteers from the foundation, and Muslim Council Residents Bukom and Gamashie were all present at the screening.

Screening

Nii Okai Aryee, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman for the Muslim Missions, stated that the screening's goal was to offer high-quality healthcare at the doorsteps of the workers, business owners, and locals in Bukom and its surroundings.

The activity, according to him, was intended to reach out to both young and old people living in underprivileged neighbourhoods who had little access to resources as part of the organization's corporate social responsibility programme initiated in 2016.

State of Health

Dr. Lukman Ahmed Qiman, a health officer at Korle Bu, stated that frequent medical checkups are necessary for individuals to know their health status.

Since the majority of the beneficiaries were unaware of their health status, he claimed that the safest approach to dealing with complex health concerns was early detection.

Thus, he expressed the expectation that the screening process will also lower the number of unexpected fatalities linked to these widespread diseases.

He claimed that many Ghanaians had one or two medical concerns but lacked the time and means to have regular checkups, adding that the activity would allow people to be aware of their health state and seek treatment as soon as possible.

According to the preliminary diagnosis, hypertension is the most serious condition, and if necessary, the affected people will be given emergency treatment.

Wellington Ezekiel, a local, thanked the Muslim Mission for bringing healthcare to the neighborhood's doorsteps.

He expressed the hope that the activity will be expanded to other underprivileged communities, emphasising the likelihood of similar actions being taken by other organisations.
