Three Daboase Senior High Technical School first-year technical students tragically perished while attempting to swim in the critically flooded River Subri.
Yesterday (Saturday, June 24), when a group of seven kids reportedly stole out of the school grounds to participate in the disastrous swimming expedition, the terrible occurrence allegedly took place.
All of the boarders were able to escape the dorm without the knowledge of the school administration or their housemaster.
Tragically, although the hunt for the third student remains open, two of the bodies have been pulled from the river and are now being kept in the mortuary at Effia-Nkwanta Teaching Hospital.
The Western Region and its surrounding areas have endured significant rainfall, which has caused multiple rivers to flood and uproot countless settlements.
The kids, who did not live in Daboase Township, went into the river to take a bath and wash their clothing, but they miscalculated the river's strong current due to the floods and were carried away.
Four of their friends made the heroic effort to save them, but they were ineffective. However, a rescue squad put up by the District Security Council is actively looking for the missing student under the direction of District Chief Executive Mr. Emmanuel Boakye.
Mr. Boakye expressed his sadness about the occurrence and noted that it was only one of many negative effects of the continued, relentless rain. He said, "Many individuals are homeless as a result of the rains. The police alerted us to the unfortunate occurrence involving the students while we were examining the impacted areas.
Mr. Boakye described the victims' hometowns as Inchaban in the Shama District, Amanful in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, and Agona in the Ahanta West Municipality.
The parents of the victims have been informed by the school administration and the local assembly, who have also offered them assistance at this trying time. Taking advantage of the occasion, the DCE warned students to stay away from rivers, especially those who were from different areas of the nation, because of the hazardous circumstances that exist right now.
