THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S
2 CORINTHIANS 4:4 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Some people believe that Christ's temptations in Matthew 4 demonstrate the devil's legitimacy in this world.
MATTHEW 4:8-9 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall and worship me.
The devil had to be capable of offering Jesus what he did for this to be a genuine temptation. However, the word "world" here once more does not refer to the planet Earth. It refers to the global system or the godless governments of humanity. That doesn't prove that the devil was the owner or ruler of the earth; it only shows that mankind has yielded to him.
The devil lacks the power to rule the earth legally. He only can function here through deceit and persuading those who do have a right to use the planet to act improperly.
The earth is still God's!
1 CORINTHIANS 10:26 26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.
The earth and everything on it belong to God because He made it. Since then, nothing has occurred that has altered who owns the earth.
PSALM 115:16 16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
Some would believe that God had granted people possession of the earth based solely on this one scripture. You will see from the verses below that this is not the case. Thus, rather than a title deed of ownership, it must imply that the Lord has granted us the right to use the earth.
Because the devil is referred to be the "god of this world" in various translations of 2 Corinthians 4:4, some people believe that the earth is owned by the devil. However, the word "world" in this verse refers to a period rather than the earth.
LEVITICUS 25:23 23 The land shall not be sold forever: for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
HAGGAI 2:8 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
JOB 41:11 11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
PSALM 50:10,12 10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
PSALM 24:1 1 The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
SAY THIS: The earth and all its treasures belong to my Father God.
