Former Majority Leader, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, has announced his intention to address the circumstances surrounding his resignation from the Majority Leader position by Friday.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu's decision to step down from his role occurred on Wednesday, February 21, following discussions among leaders of the majority caucus and the national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

His resignation followed days of speculation about a potential reshuffle in the leadership of the majority caucus, which led to some tensions between the parliamentary group and the national leadership.

On Thursday, February 22, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu made his first appearance in Parliament after resigning. Unlike his usual seating arrangement, he occupied a seat immediately behind the front row, typically reserved for the Majority Leadership. During his time in the chamber, he engaged with Mr. Osei Bonsu Amoah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapim South, for approximately five minutes, conversed with Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, First Deputy Speaker and MP for Bekwai, for close to three minutes, then proceeded to the front row to retrieve his files before leaving.

While the NPP and the Majority Caucus have not officially announced the new parliamentary leadership, there is speculation that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Deputy Majority Leader, will be appointed as the new Majority Leader, with Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip, assuming the role of Deputy Majority Leader.

This transition would allow Habib Iddrisu, the First Deputy Chief Whip, to take over as Majority Chief Whip, and there is potential for either Patricia Appiagyei or Freda Prempeh to be appointed as the new First Deputy Majority Chief Whip.

These developments come in the wake of the nomination of Lydia Seyram Alhassan as the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, prompting changes within the parliamentary leadership structure.
