Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has issued a resolute warning to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), firmly advising them against involving him in their campaign strategies for the forthcoming 2024 elections in Ghana.

In a recent communication dated February 23, 2024, Amidu underscored his refusal to be entangled in the political agendas of either party, cautioning that any attempts to do so could result in serious repercussions. He stressed that his patience has its limits and hinted at potential explosive reactions should his name continue to be exploited for political mileage.

Amidu, conveying his notice through a statement shared with MyNewsGh.com, emphasized that even President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is cognizant of his unwavering stance and would refrain from provoking him. With a background of having served in both the current regime and the previous NDC government, Amidu asserted his independence and warned that he would not hesitate to speak out if his name or past actions were manipulated as reference points in electioneering campaigns.

“I have previously stated that the 2024 presidential election will be a contest between the lesser of two evils under the 1992 Constitution. In reaching that decision, the non-sycophantic reasonable electorate may need to consider the effects of biblical and Quranic teachings on punishment and repentance, juxtaposed with ongoing sin veiled in polished deception,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Amidu highlighted the peril of exploiting his words or writings from the pre-Akufo-Addo/Bawumia era, cautioning both the NDC and the NPP against leveraging them for their own political advantages. He hinted at his potential insight into sensitive matters within the current regime, implying that he may possess information that others may not fully comprehend.

“Keep in mind that I have worked closely with this regime and may be privy to details that individuals like Nana Akomea cannot grasp. President Nana Akufo-Addo is aware of the lethal force I could unleash if the NPP attempts to lure me into compromising situations,” he concluded.

Amidu’s stern warning underscores the intricate political landscape in Ghana as the nation approaches the 2024 elections. His insistence on neutrality and refusal to be manipulated for political ends serves as a poignant reminder of the criticality of integrity and independence in the electoral process.
