According to Standard, Arsenal and Leicester City meet this weekend in the Premier League, with both teams seeking vital points but for different reasons.

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on a dramatic win against Manchester City, conceding a late equaliser in a controversial 2-2 draw, despite playing with 10 men. However, they bounced back with a dominant 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup midweek.

Leicester also advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, but in a more dramatic fashion, needing penalties to overcome League One side Walsall. The Foxes are still searching for their first win since returning to the Premier League, with last weekend's 1-1 draw with Everton marking their third stalemate of the season.

Date, Kick-off Time, and Venue

Arsenal vs. Leicester City is set for a 3 p.m. BST kick-off on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Arsenal vs. Leicester City Team News

Arsenal are dealing with several injury issues, with Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Takehiro Tomiyasu all unavailable. There are also doubts over David Raya and Jurrien Timber, which could see Neto make his debut in goal.

Leandro Trossard, despite being sent off against Manchester City last weekend, is available after serving his one-match ban in the Carabao Cup clash with Bolton.

For Leicester, Jannik Vestergaard remains sidelined with an ankle injury, as confirmed by manager Steve Cooper. Patson Daka and Jakub Stolarczyk are also unavailable for the trip to North London.

Arsenal join Real Madrid and two others in race for 21-y-o German midfielder

Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star Florian Wirtz might only be 21 years of age, but he will likely have his pick of destinations when he decides to move on. Another of Europe’s top clubs has recently taken an interest in him.

While all top clubs are no doubt aware of his talent, there is a degree of seperation between that group and the ones seriously contemplating a move for him. According to Christian Falk, he will not come cheap, as Leverkusen want €150m for the creative midfielder. Wirtz’s intention is to leave next summer though.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been linked with Wirtz some time, and now Falk explains that Arsenal have joined Manchester City in the race too.

It will be fascinating to see where he ends up, and if anyone is willing to put up the fee that they are asking for. For all four of the clubs credited with interest, Leverkusen’s asking price would be a record transfer fee. With Los Blancos at least, they have a fairly clear tendency to negotiate down both release clauses and asking prices.
