Barcelona president Joan Laporta has alleviated concerns surrounding Robert Lewandowski's future, confirming the club will extend the Polish striker's contract, according to Sportskeeda. The 36-year-old's deal, initially set to expire in 2026, includes a clause triggering an automatic one-year extension once he completes 50% of games this season.

Laporta's reassurance comes amidst Lewandowski's impressive resurgence under new manager Hansi Flick. The veteran forward has scored 12 goals in 11 appearances, propelling Barcelona to the top of the La Liga table.

"We will extend the contract of Robert Lewandowski as soon as he reaches 50% of the games. It's a clause already included in his contract," Laporta stated, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Lewandowski's importance to Barcelona cannot be overstated. His experience and goal-scoring prowess have driven the team's title ambitions. Flick has relied heavily on the Polish striker, alongside Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, to deliver results.

Barcelona's impressive start, with 24 points from nine games, has created optimism about their title prospects. However, challenges lie ahead, including crucial fixtures against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and arch-rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Recent injury concerns surrounding Lewandowski and Yamal have eased, with tests indicating the Polish striker will be available for Barcelona's clash against Sevilla on October 20.

Laporta's confirmation provides stability and reassurance, ensuring Lewandowski's continued leadership in Barcelona's pursuit of domestic and European success.

Barcelona snubbed by Sevilla ahead of La Liga fixture

Ever since the Negreira case came to light in February 2023, Barcelona’s relationship with several Spanish clubs has become strained. Real Madrid are one of those to have seen their relations with the Catalans sour, and the same can also be said for Sevilla, who will visit the Estadi Olimpic on Sunday.

Shortly after news first broke of Barcelona’s former relationship with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, Sevilla released a strong statement. The La Liga leaders reacted angrily to that, and since then, ties have been cut.

Over a year on, nothing has changed. Because of this, Sevilla will not send any of their officials to sit in the director’s box at the Estadi Olimpic for this weekend’s match, as reported by Cadena SER (via Diario AS). Furthermore, they will also send no one for the traditional pre-match lunch.

Sevilla will still have officials attending the match, including president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco. However, they will be somewhere else in the stadium.
