Casemiro has expressed optimism as Manchester United prepares for the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim, who is set to take on the challenging role of revitalizing the club. After a short stint under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, capped off by a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City, United’s players and fans are eager for the next chapter. Amorim, 39, comes to Old Trafford with a strong reputation built on his successful tenure at Sporting Lisbon, where he led the club to multiple titles and revitalized their status in Portuguese football.
Casemiro, the seasoned Brazilian midfielder, emphasized the excitement within the squad to learn from Amorim's methods and benefit from his track record of success. “He is very true, very loyal,” Casemiro noted following the win against Leicester. “We cannot ignore how he has changed Sporting. We know that Sporting won many titles, changed the club with trophies. He has already proved that he is a coach who has won a lot.” The former Real Madrid star highlighted that the team’s motivation to improve and learn would be essential in striving to reach the top of the Premier League table under the new leadership.
Although Amorim’s arrival is highly anticipated, administrative hurdles mean he cannot conduct training sessions until his work permit is granted. However, he is permitted to visit United’s Carrington training ground for strategic meetings and consultations. Discussions with Van Nistelrooy, who expressed a desire to remain part of the coaching setup, will be a priority as Amorim transitions into his role. The interim coach's recent successes, including three wins in four matches, have left a solid foundation for Amorim to build upon.
Casemiro, reflecting on his own performance this season, acknowledged a rough start that included a disappointing outing in United's 3-0 loss to Liverpool. “The whole team was not good in that game, or this season,” Casemiro admitted. Despite that, he remains confident about his contributions and eager to continue improving alongside his teammates. “I want to continue growing, I want to continue helping my teammates and the coach, helping Manchester United grow,” he said.
Amorim’s last match with Sporting was a thrilling 4-2 comeback win over Braga, showcasing the tactical acumen that United fans hope he will bring to Manchester. With his debut as United’s head coach set for November 24 against Ipswich, Amorim will face the immediate challenge of implementing his philosophy, likely including his trademark 3-4-3 formation, into the squad's dynamics with little preparation time.
Sporting Lisbon announced that Joao Pereira, formerly the reserve-team manager, would step up as the new head coach following Amorim’s departure. The change marks a new chapter for both clubs, with Manchester United looking to benefit from Amorim's innovative approach as they push for a successful turnaround in the season.
